Are you in search of some air fryer tofu recipes? This quick and easy recipe will leave you with some tasty and crispy tofu. This recipe will also be featuring two Costco products: Kinder’s Teriyaki Sauce, and Nasoya Organic Firm Tofu.
What is tofu?
Tofu is a food made by pressing curdling soy milk into a block. Depending on how much water is pressed out of the tofu during the tofu making process, tofu can have different consistencies. When looking at the packaging labels, you may notice tofu being labeled as soft, medium, firm, or extra-firm. The more water that was pressed out of the tofu, the firmer it becomes.
Soft tofu is delicate and creamy. It can be served on its own, or blended into smoothies, desserts, and sauces. Medium tofu is a bit denser than soft tofu, but still soft and delicate. Medium tofu is commonly used in miso soup. Firm tofu tends to hold its shape well better than soft tofu, which makes it great for stir-frying and pan-frying.
For this air fryer tofu recipe, we will be using firm tofu. Now you may ask, do I have to use firm tofu for this recipe? The answer is yes! Soft or medium tofu will fall apart if you try to air fry them.
What is a Buddha bowl?
A Buddha bowl is a vegetarian bowl that usually consists of a type of grain, plant-based protein, and vegetables.
With this air fryer tofu recipe, I will be assembling a Buddha bowl with the air fryer tofu with some rice, quinoa, and broccoli. You can definitely change things up and add other protein and vegetables to customize your own Buddha bowl!
Here are some Buddha bowl ideas:
Edamame
Carrots
Kimchi
Avocado
Cucumber
Bell pepper
Fried egg
Some Buddha bowl recipes also call for some type of sauce or dressing of your choice. I used Sriracha hot sauce to top off my Buddha bowl.
Air Fryer Tofu
Ingredients
- 3/4 block Nasoya firm organic tofu
- 1/4 cup Kinders Teriyaki sauce
- 1 tbsp corn starch
- Avocado oil spray (any oil spray will do)
- 2 cups cooked rice
- 2/3 cup broccoli, steamed
- Sriracha hot sauce for topping
- Sliced green onions and black sesame seeds for garnish
Instructions
- Drain out the water from the tofu container. Wrap the tofu block with 2 full sheets of paper towels to absorb the liquid then wring out the water and wrap again. Continue to do this until there is virtually no liquid being absorbed.
- Chop the tofu into small bite-sized cubes.
- Add the tofu and teriyaki sauce to a medium bowl then gently mix until each tofu cube is coated with the sauce. Sprinkle corn starch over the tofu and mix again until the corn starch is no longer visible.
- Lay the tofu out onto the air fryer try in a single layer. Spread out the tofu so they do not touch. If you are placing your tofu directly on the tray, be sure to spray the tray generously before placing your tofu.
- Air fry at 390 degrees Fahrenheit for 18 minutes.
- Once your tofu is cooked, assemble your Buddha Bowl. Add your cooked tofu over a bowl of rice and grains (I used cooked short grain rice and quinoa). Top with your steamed broccoli then drizzle with sriracha hot sauce. Garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.
