Korean Braised Potatoes (Gamja Jorim)
Korean Braised Potatoes are a sweet and savory potato side dish that you'll find at any Korean table. The potatoes are braised in the pan with a soy based sauce that is simple and easy to prepare.

- 20 oz potatoes, chopped into 1 inch pieces about 2.5 cups
- 1/2 bell pepper, or 3 mini peppers, thinly sliced
- 1/2 onion thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp water
- 2 tbsp avocado oil or any neutral oil like canola, grapeseed, vegetable, etc
- 1 tsp sesame seeds
- 1 tsp sesame oil
For the sauce
- 3 tbsp soy sauce
- 2 tbsp honey or sweetner of choice
- 1 tbsp mirin
- 1 tbsp minced garlic
- 1/8 tsp ground black pepper
Add oil to hot pan and saute potatoes on medium heat until the sides turn golden (about 8 to 10 minutes).
Combine sauce ingredients into a small bowl and mix. Set aside.
Once potatoes are golden, add onions and peppers and saute for another 2 minutes. Then add in the sauce and mix. Add 1 tbsp of water to the pan then reduce heat to low and allow everything to cook for 8 minutes or until the potatoes are fork tender (you should be able able to easily pierce the potatoes with a fork).
Take potatoes off the heat and add sesame oil and mix. Transfer the potatoes to a serving bowl and garnish with sesame seeds.
