Homemade Chili Oil
Make your own chili oil at home

- 3/4 cup neutral oil canola, vegetable, or avocado oil work well
- 1 tbsp crushed red pepper flakes
- 1 tbsp Korean red pepper flakes ("gochu garu")
- 1 tbsp minced garlic (about 3 cloves)
- 1 tsp sugar
- 1 tsp sesame seeds
- 1 cinnamon stick
- 1 bay leaf
- 1 star anise *optional
Add oil and aromatics (cinnamon stick, bay leaf, and star anise) to a pan and allow to cook under medium-low heat for about 10 minutes
Add the remaining ingredients to a heat safe bowl then slowly pour in your oil a little bit at a time. Be very careful not to pour too much oil into the bowl at once or it may overflow.
Once the chili oil has cooled, store in an air tight container in the refrigerator for up to several months.
